A somewhat aimless, angst-y yet ultimately passive anthropomorphic beer bottle, Brownie is a nice guy with a bad luck streak. Recently fired from his job as a file clerk to make way for a new computerized filing system, Brownie is filled with self-doubt & regret that may stem from things more deep-rooted than just losing his mundane office job…
First appearance: Ch. 1, P. 1
A homeless alligator, and Brownie’s best friend since high school. Charles is well-meaning & optimistic, though he certainly knows how to hold a grudge. Though much more proactive than Brownie on a surface level, one could say that he lives his life just as passively – living for free in Midtown Park’s west-facing pond allows Charles to avoid the terrifying prospect of having to face the “real world”.
First appearance: Ch. 1, P. 11
Unity, an anthropomorphic tree, is Dr. Peace Rock’s common-law wife. Well-intentioned but over emotional, she & Dr. Peace Rock are planning a campaign to clean up Midtown Park using Charles as their poster-boy to advertise the neglect the park has fallen victim to. She also owns & runs the “A Friend in Reads is a Friend Indeed” bookstore.
First appearance: Ch. 2, P. 9
Dr. Peace Rock is Unity Flower’s common-law husband. Though he seems to share an interest in environmentalism with Unity, he has a greater passion for boasting about how enlightened he is. What he is a doctor of, exactly, is not really clear at this point in time, but he does teach something or other down at the local college.
First appearance: Ch. 2, P. 9
SEWER GATOR.
Sewer Gator went to high school with Charles and Brownie back in Subton. His hard-partying, tough-guy image made him popular with like-minded folks up until his mid-20s, but in the past few years his old friends have been slowly slipping away into maturity & other responsibilities. Fed up with not having anyone to party with anymore, Sewer moved to the city & actually lives in a sewer for the first time in his life.
First appearance: Ch. 3, P. 25
BILL MCHUTCHENSE.
Bill, a non-descript rodent-y kind of creature, was Brownie’s boss. While somewhat bumbling (especially when it comes to hiring & firing), Bill knows how to manage his office well & has a fondness for managerial self-improvement weekends. He also really likes sandwiches from the local deli.
First appearance: Ch. 1, P. 2
